The disruption of the natural food chain from producer to consumer by AI and other IT technology. It will adversely impact food security. A recent report by the AI and sustainability group, Brandborg, in partnership with agricultural experts, Risk Management Foundation, and UC Davis have forecast that in 2030, greater automation and increased adoption of AI in agriculture will cause a dramatic increase in productivity and increase the food production capacity by 90%. Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to solve some of the problems associated with land management. These issues may include pests, drought, minimal to no productivity of soil, fertilizer, pesticides, and the reduction of environmental protection. It is described below how Artificial intelligence helps in the agriculture industry benefits.

Automation of Commercial Farming using AI

As the implementation of AI in agriculture could be beneficial. It can introduce similar problems to the opposite. One should not overestimate how much AI can completely automate agricultural operations.

AI helps us in maintaining large commercial farming operations by automating the repetitive tasks, which are commonly carried out by human agents. These tasks include cutting, fertilizing, preparing the soil, and fertilizing. AI can perform tasks that are often time-consuming and require human agents with the required knowledge. An AI can perform those actions easily and with higher accuracy than a human. It means a robot or the majority of them can optimize the growth, yield, and profit.

In many instances, AI takes over the tasks of several required agents. AI can be much better at finding such things as insights. Though, humans can use tools and technologies to enhance their productivity. A human cannot work in their own normal way like a robot because workers can only fully engage with their job to fulfill the tasks. Greater automation means 'an increase in fewer labor jobs, which may lead to low wages.'

Pest Control using AI

Pest control was previously a one-time towing task that could only be performed by trained field assistants. But with the advent of robotic trucks, which are outfitted with artificial intelligence. This will impact decision-making by assessing the health of crops and livestock, planning for markets, commercializing technology, and scouting new areas to support your growth.

Using AI-based Drone

Grow areas in agriculture may be further assessed by AI. But with the advent of drones, they could be used to monitor crops, livestock, and their productivity.

AI in food systems

Therefore AI could play a huge role in protecting those food systems. That is currently reliant on humans to perform tasks of common nature. Unraveling the systems on which humans rely and replacing them with technology would result in greater transformation of work. It would also affect people’s lives as they could shift away from agricultural production and towards a new growing mechanism.

Soon, AI could potentially take over the food system entirely and be used to produce our food. But one should not be so quick to assume that just because AI will take the task. They will make the systems beneficial to both humans and the Earth. Since AI will have as much power over agriculture as the human being has for the entire globe. These humans should be cautious of controlling and using AI.

Future of Artificial Intelligence

IITR conducted a rapid study of increasing levels of AI use in agriculture and found that increased use of AI may threaten land and water quality.

More AI might result in more livestock feeding machines, worse air quality, and greater deterioration of soil quality.

Future AI technologies, such as genetic modification in livestock may lead to increased toxin input by herbicides and pesticides.

AI systems use in increasing order in agriculture benefits. It tracks the progress of livestock that could lead to great advantage. It is used as a seed fertilizer that could create methane and carbon dioxide by animal manure.

IITR suggested that the reduction of herbicides and pesticides to groundwater could lead to the disturbance of the surface water life and disruption of runoff waters. An increase in rates of impact may have potentially profound implications on the state of food systems. In the longer term, it could trigger climate change and lead to an increase in sea levels, destruction of urban areas, and health risks.

There are myriad challenges to AI and its adoption in agriculture today. But it will continue to grow with each subsequent year in the future. AI technologies can be adapted and incorporated to improve productivity, increase the quality of products and ensure food security.
